Castolin Eutectic Group is looking for an experienced Senior Buyer personality with strong business acumen and hands-on mentality as our new Group Commodity Manager (m/f/d).

The place of employment is Villebon-sur-Yvette in France.


You are responsible for the functional leadership for the assigned commodity, guiding our regional Operational Buyers to drive standardization on processes and adherence to corporate sourcing strategies. Your main tasks include to develop sourcing strategies, to manage global sourcing projects, supplier development & production transfers.

  • Spend Data Gathering & Analysis on influencing spend patterns, Data Transparency
  • Market observation and analysis with focus on prices, suppliers, producers and new technologies
  • Market Data Analysis, trade fair visits, technologies, trends, new entries
  • Develop Commodity Strategy with main stakeholders, adjust to change, control adherence
  • Define Supplier Strategy
  • Define Supplier selection criteria, i.e. global footprint, technology, QM
  • Long-term demand management, bottleneck management, make or buy
  • Monitor & Report commodity KPIs (PPV, Weighted Payment, Quality & Delivery Performance)
  • Initiate implementation of specific tools, templates, best practices
  • Manage spend according to Purchasing & Commodity strategy
  • Identify savings and cost optimization potentials globally & locally
  • Lead cost saving initiatives, align with stakeholders and drive to implementation
  • Conduct yearly (or regular) negotiations with global & local strategic suppliers
  • Contract Management & Negotiation
  • Make decisions upon price adjustments according to approval policy 
  • Price & supplier data maintenance for assigned commodity
  • Supplier Assessment/ Monitoring / Consolidation: due diligence, supplier score (price, delivery, quality, support), supplier developments & audits, conduct supplier business reviews
  • Manage supplier portfolio and business status change (i.e. preferred, approved, on hold, compressed)
  • Initiation of corrective measures for Supplier Development, contingency, capacity, quality
  • RFx (from preparation of RFx documents to Quote Analysis), evaluation of results, select global & local supplier (award contract)
  • Inquiry suppliers: evaluate qualification and coordination of implementation globally & locally
  • Definition of Supply Process (Logistic concept, consignation stock, lot sizes, etc.)
Desired skill set
  • Business degree in Purchasing, Bachelor or equivalent, or MBA
  • 2-3 years global leadership experience as a Commodity Manager, or in a comparable role as Senior or Lead buyer for technical Equipment, Electromechanics or Metals
  • Knowledge in supplier performance & -development
  • Excellent analytical skills, grasp complex issues quickly
  • Legal knowledge in contractual law
  • Excellent English and French language skills (communication, written, negotiations), other languages preferred
  • Strong communication & negotiation skills
  • Proficient knowledge of common office software and ERP (BAAN, INFOR, MS Dynamics)
