Castolin Eutectic Thailand lands first big sugar mill boiler coating contract
Castolin Eutectic Thailand, the youngest company in the Castolin Eutectic family (born in February 2015), has started taking big steps in the service business. In September 2016, the company has landed a major order against stiff competition for consultancy, supply and training on arc spray equipment and consumables for boiler coating. 650 boiler tubes had to be treated in a new boiler at Erawan Sugar Company Ltd, located in Nong Bua Lampu, Thailand, to extend their lifespan.
The preventive maintenance job took place on 23 Sept – 8 Oct 2016 under Castolin Eutectic supervision. More than 1 500 kgs of our Eutronic Arc AS 195 wire were used for spraying the 14m long boiler tubes with a coating thickness of 650 microns. The coated area covered a large surface of 300 m2 in total, significantly combating wear and acting as an anti-aging solution. Erawan Sugar Company Ltd. has cane crushing capacity of 20,000 tons per day and they are currently setting up a new captive power plant with a 60 MW generating capacity, using bagasse as main fuel. The boiler is a circulating fluidised bed boiler manufactured by Ban Pong engineering co. ltd., Rathchaburi province. The project represents an important milestone for Castolin Eutectic Thailand’s debut in the boiler coating service business.
With over 40 years experience of spraying protective coatings, Castolin Eutectic has developed the “densification” proprietary process that ensures the arc spray coating integrity. Complex chemical reactions between the densifier and the metallic coating create an exceptional barrier against corrosion and improve the overall coating resistance by neutralizing these defects. The “densified” arc spray coatings can sustain boiler temperatures in excess of 1200°C and associated thermal cycling. These important chemical reactions can only be fully controlled under a specific set of conditions, which includes the preparation, the spraying of the coating and the densification. Consequently, “densified” boiler coatings can only be produced by qualified and certified Castolin Services staff.
