Whertec LaserClad Laser Cladding is a superior bond that effectively eliminates the problems of traditional weld overlays. It uses a laser as its energy source, along with metal powder alloys, to form a true metallurgical bond between unlimited types of metals. Customized powder combinations, including both metals and ceramics, means that the proper materials can be applied to combat erosion and corrosion.

The Whertec LaserClad Laser Cladding system was developed to eliminate residual stress and to provide superior metallurgical bonding. Unlike conventional weld overlay, LaserClad offers a virtually limitless range of material selections. Low heat input and wider thickness ranges, from .020″ to any specified thickness, provide great flexibility and high performance. Whertec Announces LaserClad Automation™ – Laser Cladding with Numeric Precision

Continuing its history of industry innovation, Whertec is proud to announce the latest innovation in high performance laser cladding applications, LaserClad Automation. Unlike weld overlay processes, we can achieve dilution rates of as little as 1 to 3 percent. It virtually eliminates distortion and shrinkage in the base material, and has extremely high deposit efficiency rates – 91% and greater.

Long known as the reliability experts, Whertec has taken laser cladding to the ultimate state of perfection. A numerically-controlled, robotic laser system, LaserClad Automation performs extremely precise, uniform, high-performance claddings that ensure the life and efficiency of waterwalls, tubes and other industrial process equipment.

Compare LaserClad Automation to the other weld and coating alternatives:

Thermal Sprays – Thermal sprays and ceramic coatings provide a layer of protection against corrosion and slagging, but they are mechanically bonded to the substrate and can be subject to spalling and other failure over time. LaserClad Automation provides a metallurgical bond with the substrate, virtually eliminating spalling and its related repairs.

Weld Overlay – Weld overlays form a metallurgical bond, so they too, eliminate concerns with spalling. However, the heat created during application result in dilution and distortion properties that don’t work in all applications, particularly highly corrosive environments such as pulp & paper recovery boilers. LaserClad Automation requires much less heat, so it greatly reduces dilution and distortion, meaning you can apply laser welded resilience and reduced outage time to even the most extreme boiler environments.

Unlike other laser welding systems, which deposit powder ahead of the weld, or use wire 045, LaserClad Automation uses a proprietary, numerically controlled delivery methodology that results in a uniform welded surface.
