Brazing
Rods, fluxes, rings, pastes and cored wires
|
Brazing is ideal for joining complex shapes, dissimilar metals, temperature sensitive metals, thin sections and joints where high heat input is not possible. Castolin Eutectic offers brazing solutions in the form of rods, coated rods, fluxes, rings, pastes, cored wires, and more. |
For example, an OEM for hot water heaters suffering a high rejection rate called on the expertise of Castolin Eutectic. The problems encountered in the joint between the steel vessel and the copper water/electric supply tubes were speedily identified and resolved reliably and cost-effectively. |
Aluminium joining
From alloys and wires to fluxes and pastes
|
The use of aluminium has been increasing for more than 20 years. More and more product designers and manufacturers are interested in developing even more products using various types of aluminium. For the last three decades the most common brazing alloy used for joining aluminium parts was the AlSi12. This alloy has a eutectic composition and allows aluminium to be joined at about 580 °C (recommended brazing temperature is 593 °C). 580 °C has been sufficient in the last few decades, but in recent years, the use of high strength aluminium alloys has been increasing. |
Those alloys usually employ other metals such as Mg, Si, Zn or Cu and have higher strengths and improved characteristics for individual applications. However, they also have much lower melting temperatures than standard aluminium alloys with many 6000 and 7000 series alloys now melting at a little above 600 °C, and standard brazing processes with AlSi12 are becoming very difficult if not even impossible for OEM manufacturers to carry out. In addition, there are several aluminium alloys that rapidly lose their strength and hardness as they are heated. |
They can not be joined with AlSi12 alloys and maintain their original characteristics, which limits their use in several industries. As most brazing alloys in the market have too high temperatures, Castolin has designed a complete product range in order to satisfy all its customers' requirements in terms of aluminium, as well as aluminium-copper joining. From alloys and wires to fluxes and pastes, we have deep expertise of all brazing technologies in order to solve all industrial joining challenges.

Dissimilar Metals
Join all types of metals
Every year brings many new metals to the market, and the ability to join different types of metals together can give major product advantages in terms of cost, design, and performance. Castolin Eutectic has a range of welding, brazing and thermal spray technologies that can open up this world, specifically adapted to meet the customers' production environment.
For example, the design of a new cooking utensil comprised a sandwich of stainless steel and aluminium to improve heat transfer efficiency, but technical features had to fit in with an exacting induction brazing production requirement. Through very close collaboration with the customer, which included testing and individual product development, Castolin Eutectic ensured the new utensil could be manufactured to meet all technical requirements, in addition to the rigorous joint quality, increased productivity and production goals required.
